Diary of a Yogini, Day 3 – On my way to health :)

Yoga alex gray energy body pollyana Yoga frogSo, I have already recognized that I am stressed. What a great step! When we struggle with something we need to recognize it first so that, in the light of consciousness, we can properly deal with it. Now it cannot hide from me anymore… cheeky!

My first action was to really pay attention to my body’s needs when practicing yoga, really respecting any sensation, respecting how I felt before starting the session and then, do what I felt good and not what I thought would be good. Also, I stopped doing asana practice every day and started to focus more on Pranayamas (breathing exercises), which led me to discover I had very fast & shallow breathing. I was gasping for air, prana, life force. I stopped doing complicated breathing exercises and put my intention into relearning how to breath, and this has also become my focus in my yoga classes, before moving on to more complicated ways to control the breath first we need to know how to breath. Funny that we need to learn how to breath… It’s such an unconscious action. Did we forget? Did we never learn in the first place? I watched my son and his friends and noticed that kids breath properly (they just let their bellies hang out), perhaps as we grow older we learn to suck it in to fit into tight clothes or into a cultural stereotype? The most important yoga practice has become meditation focusing on deep, diaphragmatic breathing, and that is doing wonders for my body, mind and soul.

Because I am a clever little Brazilian lady, a Holistic Herbalist, Aromatherapist, Nutritionist, and a Yogini, I knew that I could go further with my healing process, I knew that because I’ve been stressed for a while now my adrenal glands must be very tired, so I researched in my books and on the internet and I found good answers. Normally when anyone in my family is sick we try to boost the body-mind-soul from all the different angles, which always seems to work pretty well!

I came across to this nice website which said that when the adrenals are tired we should eat more often to keep the blood sugar levels stable and that we should eat Low glycaemic index (GI) foods, so I made the point to start to eat more often and checked that our food had a low GI. I have been eating raw oats or buckwheat porridge for breakfasted, topped with nuts, berries, seeds. (We have the recipe in our facebook page and I will start to post them here, so keep your eyes open!)

So what do I make sure that I eat/drink/add in my food every day?

Oraganic Buckwheat: Perfect for breakfast, high in protein, low GI, no gluten.
Raw Goji Berries: It is a super food, packed with nutrients, rich in vitamin C and antioxidants.
Hemp seeds/Hemp protein: As a protein source and omega 3. It has loads of awesome properties, but this is my focus just now.
Non GMO Lecithin: For my adrenals and my big ol brain.
Siberian ginseng tincture: For my adrenals.
Valererian tincture and Tea: To relax and ease back pain.
Reishi Mushroom tincture: For the heart and for stress. (I madethis one J )
Raw foodBerries: For their antioxidant properties.
Multi-Vitamin: For everything. To keep on the top of the mountain.
B-complex Vitamin: For my busy mind and also because I am almost vegan I need B12.
Vitamin C: Loads, really a lot! When we are stressed our bodies burn out Vitamin C, so I am having in between 3000 to 5000 mg a day.

I am also making use of essential oils, Frankincense has been my favourite of late, very relaxing and spiritual. Luckily I have loads of essential oils at home, as I use them to work (Aromatherapy massage), so I can smell them and feel what is the one I relate with. *Note that when buying essential oils buy organic and high quality to receive the healing properties, not just their smells.

I have been making use of affirmations as well. Check out Louise Hay’s “You can heal your life”, it is a beautiful, simple and very helpful book which covers this topic really well. One technique which I use: every morning and every evening look at yourself in the mirror and say to yourself “I love and accept myself unconditionally right now”.

And of course, I am giving myself time to relax and just be. 🙂

So you see, it is simple, you just need to add things to your everyday life. It can seem like a lot at the beginning, but once you get into it, it just becomes the way you live. It might be a bit more expensive, but there is no price for feeling good! There are many other foods and supplements that we can use, but those are the ones that resonate with me.

How will they get on if you do not have your health? It is the foundation for everything else. We all need to be on top of our own mountain, to feel good, happy and content. This is what I want for my life, and as I climb there I want to help you get there by pointing the way. You don’t need to climb a rough track, but instead take a well worn path, with colourful flowers on either side 🙂 . But know that to follow this you need put in the effort, be committed to it and to follow your inner guidance.
